Building a drop-in community hub for all

Home: Welcome

About

What are we trying to do?

Coxley lost its only pub, the 17th century Pound Inn, to the developers in 2015.

Now, thanks to the generosity of Guy and Sarah Roberts who have donated approximately an acre of land to the residents of Coxley, we have a chance to create an exciting purpose built Community Centre as the social hub of the village.

The land is ideally placed at the geographical centre of Upper Coxley, Coxley Wick, and Coxley on the A39 (main road from Wells to Glastonbury), between the site of the former Pound Inn and Mill Lane.

The proposal is to build a drop-in community hub catering for all ages of village residents and visitors, with particular attention paid to alleviating social exclusion, and a place for teenagers and young families to meet. Earlier ambitions for a broader range of facilities have had to be re-assessed as large grants, once available pre-Covid, have been severely cut back.

Grants from the Big Lottery Fund “Awards for All” and Village SOS have enabled us to tackle all the preliminary work necessary in setting up the project.

The Coxley Community Land Trust is now a registered society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014; a legal requirement for communities to own land and buildings.
